Thareem Rehman joined the firm’s Islamabad office in 2026. She assists the firm’s partners and senior associates in a range of corporate matters, with a particular interest in international law, dispute resolution, and commercial practice.

i. Committee Member – European Circuit Annual Conference 2025

The European Circuit | Jun 2025 – Sep 2025

Assisted in organising the Annual Conference 2025 in The Hague, themed “Lawyering in a Phase of Upheaval.” Contributed to planning and coordinating sessions, arranging stakeholder visits to the International Criminal Court, and supporting the smooth running of the event while engaging with leading legal professionals from across Europe.

Additionally, drafted articles for the European Circuit Newsletter and assisted in organising a seminar in London on the evolving landscape of cross-border litigation and judicial cooperation post-Brexit.


ii. Mini Pupil

  • Gained insight into immigration and asylum law whilst accompanying a Barrister in an asylum appeal.
  • Developed an understanding of the grounds of appeal, standard of proof, and procedural fairness when drafting grounds for permission to appeal to the First-Tier Tribunal.
  • Observed bail hearings and deepened appreciation of the complexity of legal principles and their application to varying case factors and circumstances of the Defendant.
  • Learned the importance of strong evidence and observed how barristers balance the client’s best interests with their duty to the court in the administration of justice.

iii. Project Coordination Intern

Cinema for Peace Foundation, Berlin | 01/05/2023 – 31/10/2023

  • Played a key role in ensuring that victims received access to legal recourse and that justice was pursued for violations under international law, assisting with the establishment of courts.
  • Conducted legal analysis of charges under the International Criminal Court (ICC) Rome Statute, including genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression.
  • Contributed toward the creation of the People’s Tribunal: The Court of the Citizens of the World, analysing evidence including military exercises and territorial claims to determine the legitimacy of charges and construct a strong legal case.
  • Conducted interviews with expert witnesses.

iv. Children’s Rights Researcher – Volunteer

Faculty of Law, Maastricht University | 01/06/2022 – Present

  • Assisted in researching the case study “Invisible Children: The Development Rights of Children who are Living in Unrecognized States” by the Dutch Research Council.
  • Undertook thorough examination of papers and articles related to international law, children’s rights, and governance in unrecognised states, summarising key findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Attended training sessions on writing techniques and advanced research methods, developing critical skills for disseminating complex legal and human rights issues to a broader audience.

v. Legal Staff Assistant

Embassy of Pakistan, The Hague | October 2020 – July 2021

  • Prepared detailed legal reports for sessions of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), enhancing understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Supported initiatives in human rights policy, demonstrating a commitment to advocacy and international legal standards.
  • Supported trade diplomacy initiatives, including organising and promoting Pakistan’s first International Virtual Textile Exhibition (2021); developed a database of Dutch textile companies and conducted sector outreach.
  • Assisted in research and preparation of briefing materials on the EU Geographical Indication dispute concerning Basmati rice.
