Minam Karim

Senior Associate

Minam Karim is a senior associate at RIAA Barker Gilette Pakistan and is based out of its Lahore office. He specialises in transactional and corporate work and has extensive experience working on federal and provincial government projects, including public-private partnerships. He also specialises in arbitrations and constitutional, commercial and civil litigation and has regularly appeared before civil courts, tribunals and the High Courts of Pakistan.

Prior to joining the firm, Minam Karim worked in law firms specialising in constitutional, civil, and commercial litigation, the Office of the Advocate General Punjab, and a corporate consultancy company. He has extensive experience in litigation and corporate law and has also served as an adjunct faculty member of the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law, LUMS.

  • Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Laws (B.A.-LL.B.), degree from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) (2011).
Experience

Minam Karim has contributed to the World Bank’s annual “Doing Business” reports. He has also worked on:

  • various transactions on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), including work in relation to sponsorship agreements, media rights agreements, team franchise agreements and tender documents, especially in relation to the Pakistan Super League (PSL);
  • various commercial, consumer, intellectual property and constitutional litigation proceedings relating to gas companies, banks, international airline companies (such as Emirates and Qatar Airways) and the PCB before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Lahore High Court, consumer, labour and civil courts;
  • the Reko Diq international arbitrations taking place between the Government of Pakistan and the Tethyan Copper Company (Pvt) Limited before ICSID (International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes) and the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce);
  • various international arbitrations (including LCIA arbitrations) representing clients such as SNGPL and the PCB, including in the arbitration dispute between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India before the International Cricket Council;
  • contracts relating to inter alia the setting up of telehealth consultancy services, media rights for Polo Club, gas supply agreements, water treatment plants and setting up of federal and provincial public-private partnerships for water sanitation, public health, afforestation projects, parking plazas, hotels in Nathiangali and hospital diagnostic wards; and
  • various tendering processes for various Government clients, including PCB, KP Tourism Department, Punjab Mineral Development Corporation, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Galiyat Development Authority and the Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Punjab.
