M. Qaiser Khanzada

Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution

M. Qaiser Khanzada (Qaiser) is the Head of Dispute Resolution and is a founding partner of RIAA Barker Gillette, having joined its predecessor firm in 1981.

Qaiser’s practice covers a range of corporate and commercial disputes encompassing the traditional chancery fields and property disputes. Chancery work splits into two areas: traditional and commercial. Traditional chancery work includes trusts, probate and real property (land, and anything growing on, affixed to, or built upon it), and commercial chancery work covers a wide range of finance and business disputes often involving an international dimension, relating to asset tracing, cross-border insolvency and offshore trusts. Qaiser also has experience with contentious matters involving the Competition and Markets Authority (the CMA) in relation to alleged cartel investigations and enquiries and consequent director disqualification applications.

Qaiser has experience in all forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), ranging from direct negotiations to mediation. Qaiser’s clients range from companies and their officers to insolvency practitioners and high-net-worth individuals.

Expertise

Commercial litigation

Commercial litigation work includes breaches of directors’ fiduciary duties, claimant professional negligence, contractual disputes, indemnity provisions, warranties and exclusion clauses, insolvency, multiparty and multi-jurisdiction actions, the obtaining of and defending of freezing and related interim orders, partnership and boardroom disputes.

Insolvency

Insolvency work includes corporate recovery, administration, liquidation, receivership, bankruptcy, claims for wrongful and fraudulent trading and liabilities of directors to include disqualification proceedings.

Property litigation

Property Litigation work includes construction disputes, landlord and tenant disputes, breaches of covenant, forfeiture and dilapidations, and contentious lease renewal proceedings.

Regulatory

Regulatory experience includes Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigations and consequent director disqualification applications.
