Alex Deal

Partner

Alex Deal is the Managing Partner of RIAA Barker Gillette (UK) LLP. His practice covers commercial dispute resolution, corporate and commercial and employment law.

Alex Deal started his professional career in 1992 as a barrister and re-qualified as a solicitor in 2001. Alex joined RIAA Barker Gillette in 2005, having formerly been a partner at Amhurst Brown Colombotti and Howard Kennedy.

Expertise

Banking and finance

Banking and Finance work includes term loans and facilities, security documentation including debentures, charges, chattels mortgages, assignments and personal and corporate guarantees and security trustee and inter-creditor agreements.

Commercial

Commercial work includes distribution and agency agreements, sale of goods contracts, supply of services contracts, terms of business, financial services related agreements including customer contracts, consultancy agreements, general terms of business, introducing broker agreements and white label contracts, confidentiality agreements and licensing agreements.

Corporate

Corporate work includes shareholder agreements, subscription agreement, bespoke articles of association, share and business acquisitions, share purchase agreements, share buy-back arrangements, management buy-outs and asset purchases and reconstruction schemes.

Dispute resolution

Dispute Resolution work includes litigation in all divisions of the High Court, arbitration (including ICC and LCIA), expert determination, adjudication and ADR (mediation, RTM and ENE). Alex’s expertise covers most business-related disputes including applications for interim relief, commercial contract disputes, corporate and partnership disputes including unfair prejudice petitions, disputes relating to trusts, claims relating to breaches of trust, fiduciary duty and confidence and economic torts, statutory claims against directors, professional negligence (barristers, solicitors, auditors, tax advisers and architects) and corporate and personal insolvency.

Employment, partnership and LLPs

Employment, Partnership and LLP non-contentious work includes service agreements for directors and senior employees (including in the banking and financial services sectors), policies and handbooks, employment-related data protection issues, TUPE and collective redundancies, dismissals, non-competition and confidentiality obligations and restrictions, partnership deeds, LLP agreements. Contentious work includes unfair and wrongful dismissal, discrimination, injunctions concerning breaches of confidence and post-termination restrictions, partnership and LLP disputes including litigation and arbitration on issues such as expulsion and dissolution, bonus and incentive payments, partners’ exits and team moves.

Projects and project finance

Projects and Project Finance work includes advising on and providing English law opinions on the implementation of agreements. These include: including sovereign guarantees, power purchase agreements, fuel supply agreement, EPC contracts, O & M contracts, letters of credit, performance guarantees, consultancy contracts and non-disclosure agreements, syndicated facility agreements, inter-creditor agreements, common terms agreements, sponsor support agreements, direct agreements, co-ordination agreements, debentures, mortgages, share charges, assignments, security deeds, and personal and corporate guarantees.
