Older people and LPAs

With over 45 years’ experience, you can rely on our team to overcome the various obstacles and hurdles, which confront older people and vulnerable clients, their families and carers, every day.

With an ageing population in the UK, issues relating to older people and the vulnerable are a rapidly expanding area of law, subject to much legislation and regulation. Where appropriate, we encourage clients to plan ahead and put a Lasting Power of Attorney (an LPA) in place.

We will handle your case with the utmost care, sensitivity and efficiency, and with that in mind, we can organise home or hospital visits to assist you and your family if required.

Our head of department and private client partner, James McMullan, is an associate member of The Association of Lifetime Lawyers, and private client solicitor Herman Cheung is a fully accredited member. James and Herman are also members of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP), whilst trainee solicitor Charlotte Barbaroussis is an affiliate member of STEP. James is also a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).

We understand that you may require a more discreet setting or a home visit to provide your instructions. Therefore, we can arrange to meet you in the comfort of your home or at your care home or hospital in or around Central London. Click here for more information.

  • Acting as a professional deputy, managing the financial affairs of clients who have lost capacity, including liaising with the families of those who resided overseas, ensuring compliance with Court of Protection rules and procedures.
  • Advising an older person who wished to make a substantial lifetime gift of an asset to his children, ensuring the client was fully informed of his options and compliance with Law Society best practice.
  • Acting as a professional attorney under a registered LPA for several clients with no family to perform that role, ensuring that their needs and requirements were taken care of when they lost capacity, accounting to the executors of their estate on death.
